Have you ever heard the saying ‘it’s not like it used to be when I was a kid?’ That’s because children and adults, now seem to be perfectly content spending hours in front of a television, computer or video game.

Most kids never learn how to play Kick the Can, never hear their mothers complain about grass stains, and have forgotten how it feels to run through the sprinkler during summer vacation. In this era of technology, learn why outdoor play is crucial for children.

1) Builds Social Skills

When kids play outdoors, they are almost never alone, kids playing in the street seem to flock to each other. Children learn to work in teams, how to make decisions and be more tolerant of others. Most kids don’t pay attention to how much another kid makes, where they went to school or if they plan on opening a 401k plan, kids just want to play. When kids do play outdoors alone, they learn to be more independent, use their imagination and entertain themselves.

2) Combats Childhood Obesity

Children who play outdoors are exercising without even knowing it. Any kid will tell you that they would rather play tag or dodge ball for hours, than do jumping jacks or a timed mile run. Jumping rope, throwing water balloons, or just playing in the sand all burn more calories than sitting in front of the TV. The exposure to sunlight also combats depression and the desire to overeat.

When a child comes in from a hard day of play, they are more apt to crave juices, fruit or even cold tap water, more than a can of soda whereas sitting in front of the computer, they’ll probably grab the closest thing on hand.

3) Less Stress And Restlessness

Sometimes kids don’t realize they need to play outside. They could easily pass the entire day playing video games, but at night they can’t seem to sleep. Parents also need time without kids around, even if they are only 10 feet away on the front porch. When kids play outdoors, or even just sit outdoors, the fresh air wears them out faster and parents are less stressed when they have quiet time for themselves and a calmer child indoors.

Unfavorable Climate?

Some cities are just not conducive to outdoor play due to the weather or the location. Many schools, rec centers, and dance studios offer open gym periods. Even walking laps in a shopping mall can be a nice substitute every once in a while. If a child doesn’t seem to like the idea of playing alone or playing outside, parents should get out there and play with them! They can show their kids that they honestly were a child at one point in their life and can still play like one too.

Watching Our Kids Survive In The Backyard

Our backyards are so close to our homes that it’s easy to feel a false sense of security as our kids spend time playing there. However, there are a few important measures you should take if you want your kids to stay safe outside.

1. If you have an open backyard, the first thing you should do is enclose it with a fence. However unlikely it may be, it’s easier for your children to get kidnapped or stray far away when you have an open backyard. The fence doesn?t have to be fancy – a simple wire fence will do the trick if you can?t afford a sturdy one. Just be sure that the fence doesn’t have an opening big enough for your kids to climb through.

2. Have a pool in your backyard? Then be sure that your pool is fenced up, too. The fence should be more than 4 feet tall, and should be locked unless you are there to supervise your children while they swim. If you can afford it, install an alarm that’ll warn you if your children have entered the pool area after unlocking the fence. Also, it’s important to tell your children to stay away from the pool and explain the consequences if they don?t listen.

3. While BBQ grills are a very welcome addition to any yard, and are great for family gatherings, it’s best not to leave equipment lying around when not in use. Take apart and store away grills and other dangerous equipment like lawnmowers and tillers in locked up garden sheds or your garage when you’re not using them. We all know just how imaginative kids can be, and you never know when they might decide to use them as a toy!

4. Playground equipment in the backyard (if you have any) should be kept well-maintained at all times. Ensure that there are no sharp edges or hooks hanging out of any of the objects. Also, a proper shock absorber beneath the playground is a must (this can be 12 inches of sand, or a thick padding material of any kind) to break any falls.

5. Last but not least, the best way to prevent accidents when your kids are playing in the backyard is to keep a close eye on them. Always ensure that an adult is around to supervise the kids when they play. If you can?t watch them, it may be better to bring them inside the house to play.

Always bring a beloved blanket or toy for young children that are traveling. While most of the family views a vacation as a fun break, to a very young child it seems like a needless disruption of their normal day. Taking your child’s favorite soft toy or blanket with you will help your child to feel more at home and relaxed in a different location.

You must not give in to all of your child’s demands, especially if they are unreasonable. While treats and rewards are an important part of <a href="http://babiesandmothers.com/category/parenting/"title="Parenting" >parenting, they should only be given at your discretion. You need to avoid a situation where the child thinks they can manipulate you emotionally.

Create a chart that will help your children visualize their accomplishments anytime you try to teach them something new. For example, if you divide a chart into 24 squares, you can fill one of the squares with a sticker each time your child completes the new task. Let your child know he will get a reward when the chart has been filled. This sort of chart works to keep your child motivated in order to achieve the reward.

You can get quality baby items without spending a small fortune on them. You can buy high-quality versions of these sorts of items at department stores. Another option would be to seek out hand-me-downs from friends and family.

A good way to do make sure this is completed is to have a yearly savings plan, and make sure you meet it. Guardians should resist dipping into the child’s savings, as it could become a bad habit, and it is hard to replace the money.

If you’d like to be a great parent, one thing you must do is to listen to your children. Give them the ability to talk to you and learn about things that interest them. This is a great way to lay the foundation for the future. If your children feel comfortable talking to you about trivial things, they will be able to talk to you when serious matters arise.

Don’t push your child into anything before they are ready, such as potty training or walking, simply because their older sibling did it when they were a certain age. Every child is unique, so pushing one before they’re ready could further delay when they’ll actually be ready.

This article should give you a good start on your way to becoming a good parent. Just keep in mind that no one’s parenting experience is quite the same. There is no particular parenting style that is the “correct way.” Use common sense when you aren’t sure which parenting tactic you will use. Try to appreciate every bit of time as a parent because, before you know it, they won’t be children anymore.

Here are a few more tips to helping decide on your own parental skills. Every one is different and every one has different ideas. So try a few of these and see which ones you feel happy with. Children should know that life can sometimes be difficult and the trials should be met head on. Watching you and your partner solve problems will teach your children the correct ways to resolve their own. This helps them see the world realistically.

Becoming a step-parent means there is a long road ahead of you before you will be accepted. The child may blame you for their parents’ separation. Take your time and don’t rush things, so that any stepchildren can take their time getting to know you and feeling comfortable with you.

Do not put your child down at any time, and especially not while you are disciplining them. This type of verbal lashing out is not beneficial to your child’s behavior or attitude. You should instead focus on using positive, encouraging words to elicit the desired behavior.

As your child begins to make new friends, it is possible that he or she may adopt some inappropriate phrases and words from other children. It is important that he is made aware as soon as possible that the words are not appropriate and that they should not be used as part of the family boundaries. Always pull your child into a quiet place for correction, so that you won’t embarrass or humiliate him around his peers.

If you adopt a child, prepare yourself to answer questions as your child gets older and wants to know more about the adoption. Many children that are adopted become curious about their birth family. When they have questions about this, they will expect you to provide them with some answers. They will resent you if you do not tell them the truth about where they came from.

When teaching young children about something new, chart their accomplishments. For instance, a four row chart with seven columns can provide space for stickers anytime your child performs the new task on a given day. When the chart has a sticker in every square, reward your child. A chart provides a visual reminder for your child of his accomplishments thus far. Knowing there is a reward available will keep him motivated.

Taking your toddler to the bathroom every two hours should be a part of your potty training strategy. Toddlers don’t always let you know in time that they have to use the bathroom because they are still learning to communicate this. Think of this as a way of avoiding incidents. It’s easy for a busy toddler to forget to take a bathroom break.

Being interested in making your <a href="http://babiesandmothers.com/category/parenting/"title="Parenting" >parenting skills better shows you already have interest in improving; this article will give you practical advice to help boost your confidence. No matter what stage of parenting you are in, you can always learn new parenting information.

Choose your battles. You don’t want to fight with your child over everything, so chose the most crucial items that need addressing. Children do need structure, but too much structure can be stifling.

If your child has a behavioral condition such as ADHD, you will do well to keep them busy. Children dealing with these types of issues have a huge amount of excess energy. If you want to prevent them from acting out, it is important to keep them occupied. Make sure your child has regular daily activities that help release excess energy.

If you want to avoid getting your children too cranky and bored, then periodically make travel stops. The longer distance that you travel, the more stops you should make. Although people may want to reach a destination quickly, children will be easier to deal with when they can run off steam. You can stop by a park, a restaurant or a rest area, and allow the children to run around and get out some of their bottled up energy.

Set aside some of your toddler’s toys so that you can begin rotating them in and out of circulation. Except for a few select items, small kids often become uninterested in individual toys quickly. By taking out some of their forgotten toys from the bottom of their toy chest, you can keep their interest.

Toddlers should not be given any kind of soda. Try sticking with drinks that provide your baby with vitamins or nutrients, such as warm or cold milk, sugar-free juices, and water.

When disciplining your child, you will want to avoid words that could be considered belittling. These words will not help behavior improve. As an alternative, try to use kind, loving words of encouragement as well as praise for good behavior. This will inspire him to want to please you.

Kids by nature want to be independent, giving them tasks to perform while you clean around the house can help them gain confidence. For example, you could allow your young child to hand you some dishes out of the dishwasher when unloading it. When putting the laundry away, have your child sort one pile of socks. These things will help them to feel they are being helpful, and will also help them to feel independent.

Teaching your child organization skills will be easier if you offer specific areas for his belongings. Your child’s toys will be everywhere if you do not instill the right organizational skills in him or her from the beginning. Children love to learn, so if you teach them how to put his things away properly, they will be able to do it themselves after playing with them.

Hopefully, you have found all of the information contained inside this article helpful. Use these tips and your relationship with your children will be so good that others will wonder how you did it. Use the information here to help you enjoy and value the time you spend with your children.

Provide your child with a variety of opportunities for sensory development. Let your child squish mud between their fingers or stop to smell a bed of flowers. Give them every opportunity possible to explore their world. Try to find as many things as you can that will grab your child’s attention and engage his or her senses.

If your child has a concern and talks to you about it, put yourself in his or her shoes. Children put value on things that adults typically see no value in at all. Having a certain crayon may be extremely important to your child while it may not be important to you at all.

An important skill any truly great parent possesses, is how to effectively listen to their child. Let them speak to you and figure out what it is that they’re wanting. This is a great way to lay the foundation for the future. If your children feel comfortable talking to you about trivial things, they will be able to talk to you when serious matters arise.

Your children should learn basic cooking skills so that, in the future, they can prepare their own food and will not have to go out to eat or order take out. Both boys and girls are empowered when they are able to prepare meals for themselves as well as for the family. This also allows you to spend excellent quality time together.

Do not give an infant or toddler soda, diet or regular. Your young child should drink milk, juice or water to get the vitamins and nutrients he or she needs.

Advice for parents of toddlers! If your toddler acts up and craves all moments to center around her, she needs to learn patience and the ability to wait for her turn. If the kids are being difficult, you may want to give them a short time-out, or just let them know what they are doing wrong.

A 529 plan is a great way to do this. These savings plans are state operated, and intended to assist you in saving towards college tuition. As an added plus, there are also tax benefits associated with these plans.

Get your child involved in sports or other activities outside of school. They encourage children to be social and make friends. These skills are desperately needed throughout life, and developing them when they are young is best. As importantly, if your children are involved with positive activities, they are less likely to get in trouble.

Children aren’t born with instructions, so it is only natural parents may need help sometimes. Sometimes, you’ll face a situation that you are not sure how to handle. In this article you will find some <a href="http://babiesandmothers.com/category/parenting/"title="Parenting" >parenting advice to guide you through those situations. Now that you have it, you can put this valuable advice into practice!

Not every child is extroverted, and as a parent, you need to realize that. Some kids are quite shy, and there is nothing wrong with that. If you believe your child avoids contact with others, then there is cause for concern. If you feel that your child is being too introverted, then pay a visit to their medical professional. The doctor will be able to check if there are any medical reasons causing the withdrawal.

Try to give them suggestions on what to do instead of what not to do.. Constantly placing restrictions on your children can cause them to want to lash out and rebel. Rather, if you emphasize those things that they are permitted to do, they will feel as if they have some control.

Come up with a signal, like a hand gesture, for times when your child is exhibiting inappropriate behavior, and teach that signal to your child. These signals can give your child the appropriate warning to behave, as they will understand that discipline is imminent.

It is rarely okay to show your anger as a parent. The adult should be responsible for controlling their feelings of anger. Parents that manage their anger in the wrong way set a poor example for their children. Showing your anger after an accident happens is the worst thing you could do.

Every parent needs an occasional break for their children. Get a member of your family to babysit them, even if he or she can only watch them for a couple hours. Parents become really stressed, which creates tension, if they don’t get a break away from their kids.

Most children do very well with a consistent, structured schedule. Your child will be well-behaved if they have consistent routines in their life. Therefore, you should ensure you follow through on them.

If your child hates the taste of medicine, try disguising the taste with something sweet. Orange or apple juice can be great options. Sometimes even just adding a teaspoon of sugar or bit of honey to the medicine will work. For eye drops, since children can never keep their eyes open, have them close the eye and apply a drop to the corner of the eye, then have them blink. The drop will fall in when your child opens up their eye.

Preschool children often have a hard time with change. An abrupt switch from on activity to the next can induce stress, and it will end in a melt down.

It is very important to establish a strong relationship with children when they are younger. As they grow they will be able to share things with you because they feel safe and comfortable. The tips in the article can be used to establish a relationship with your child and strengthen it over time.

If your child comes to you with a problem, place yourself in his or her shoes. Small details you would not dwell over can mean a lot to your child.

Children who suffer with ADHD and similar conditions are best served by keeping busy. These children have tons of energy and they can misbehave if they are not kept busy. Making physical activity a part of a high-energy kid’s daily life will reduce the incidence of bad behavior.

It is natural for children to crave independence, so assigning chores and responsibilities around the house boosts their confidence. If you are unloading the dishwasher, let your little one hand you the spoons. Another good way to help your children gain their independence is to have them sort socks while you fold the remaining laundry. By helping you with these tasks, it will make them feel very independent.

It will be helpful for new stepparents to understand that it will probably be quite a while before your stepchild accepts you into the family. A lot of children feel resentment after a divorce. Do not rush into a relationship with a stepchild, they will reach out to you.

Set a good example for your children by regularly eating fruits, and vegetables. If they see you doing it, they will be more likely to mimic that behavior and eat healthy choices for themselves.

Bring some comfort items when traveling with toddlers or young children. Your child may become distressed if you take them somewhere new. Keeping a favorite toy or blanket handy can help your little one adjust to a different location, with a minimum of fuss.

Make your children understand it is very important not to talk to strangers. In modern times, it is nearly impossible to distinguish predators and criminals from everyday people, and children are even less able to do so. Instill the concept of “stranger danger” into your child, and develop a plan with them, such as yelling and running away from a stranger who approaches them.

You should spend your time encouraging your child’s good behaviors rather than emphasizing his bad ones. Children may be more tempted to do something if they know they are not allowed. If you talk about the good things they can do, your children will approach these choices positively.

While devoting time to your children is important, taking time for yourself is essential, too. This helps you to maintain your strength as an individual, which will make you a better parent.

As the tips listed here show you, learning more about <a href="http://babiesandmothers.com/category/parenting/"title="Parenting" >parenting can help you view it less like a chore and more like a gift. Taking advice from people who have been in similar situations is a great way to address a problem. So go ahead and implement these tips!

How To React To Aggressive Behavior In Children

Aggressive behavior in children can often go unchecked because they look so cute. Children observe closely and see the belligerent adult win. They mimic this kind of behavior to see if they too can get away with aggression – and then, your four-year-old daughter may decide to boss over your two year old son.

This little imp may see you as the perfect target to pay forward the punches and kicks that he receives from his sister. The cheeky elf with a pouty mouth and dark intent eyes and such a pink, chubby face looks so cute, you can’t help smiling, encouraging him to continue being mean. It is really important to check aggressive behavior in children or else this could get out of hand after a certain age.

When a toddler hits the mother, does she beam and pick up the baby and shower it with kisses? Most mothers must want to react this way – but should you? You should think of the child’s future, not your present. Taking away closeness for a couple of minutes or more when faced with aggressive behavior in children seems to work like nothing else. Mommy disapproves. Mommy won’t talk to me or smiled at me — these aren’t terrible threats to a toddler. He will behave if mommy is strong and doesn’t relent when the baby’s face puckers up.

The daughter who is four has lately been pushing the little one, making him sprawl on all fours, trying to ride him. She could be jealous — perhaps you have been cuddling the baby more and she has felt ignored. Or maybe she is bored as she is forced to stay in her room to do her home work. And the baby is cranky and is throwing the toys around. Will being disapproving work all the time? You can’t make the kids feel unloved. For things to really change, you need to work harder. You need to get to the root of the problem.

Both the children need your time. You can manage it better with help from the older kid. If she is told that the baby came only for her and it’s her darling, her clumsy little brother who pees in bed and has no potty training but is special because he is her baby brother, she will feel proud and responsible and protective.

She will want to be the best sister ever and will watch over him as mommy fixes her breakfast and packs her lunch. She will tell him stories and sing to him and cuddle him and kiss him. She will fuss over the baby and mommy will fuss over her. This works invariably in controlling aggressive behavior in children.

Remove junk foods from the house and you eliminate temptations, while promoting healthier choices. Removing this food from your home will reduce the likelihood that your child will ask for it. Instead, these foods should be considered special, rare treats that are to be used as an occasional reward.

If you are expecting, don’t blow two months’ salary on nursery equipment. Some department stores, such as Walmart, have high quality items at affordable prices. You can get everything you need for a fraction of the price by shopping at one of these stores. It also makes sense to solicit unused items from friends and loved ones.

Try to keep track of what is going on. Your child’s teacher is probably totally willing to speak to you about what is going on with your children. Use them as a resource to help you keep tabs on your child’s life.

Encouraging your child to play team sports will help build their self-esteem. Giving your child the opportunity and encouragement to participate in team sports, and being there to watch their games, will strengthen your relationship, create shared memories, and build important life skills.

Set a good example for your child by eating lots of fresh fruits and veggies and always choosing whole grains over processed grains. Your child will more likely choose healthy snacks over junk food.

Stick with your child’s established eating and sleeping schedule as best you can when you are traveling with him or her. Travel can be stressful for babies and small children. Familiar bedtime routines can help him or her feel a little more comforted and secure in a new place. This will also aid in restful sleep for everyone!

You can teach your child to be organized by giving designated spaces to put belongings. Without providing set places for a child’s art supplies, toys and clothing, these items will be strewn from one end of the house to the other. If you teach your child how to put things back in their proper place, he can start cleaning up after himself when he uses them.

If your child is adopted, understand that you will have to answer some tough questions when your kid becomes an appropriate age. All children want to know where they are from, and this is no different for adopted children. It’s best to be honest about your child’s biological family, because lying about it may cause strife in your relationship when your child inevitably learns the truth.

It is important to understand that not all children are outgoing. Children can be very shy, and it does not mean that anything is wrong. Pay attention to whether your child becomes extremely withdrawn. If you are concerned that your child may be too withdrawn, it may be a good idea to have them seen by a doctor to rule out any medial/psychological issues that may be present.

Learning something that can improve your own <a href="http://babiesandmothers.com/category/parenting/"title="Parenting" >parenting skills can make you want to become a better parent by boosting your confidence. Parenting involves continuing education and on-the-job training.
